Bloomsbury

Bloomsbury has long been associated with London intellectualism and is today home to a staggering variety of academic institutions. Home to the University of London, it also boasts University College, Royal Academy of Dramatic Art and the School of Oriental and African Studies. In the early 20th century it was also home to the Bloomsbury Group.

Clerkenwell

Clerkenwell developed as a tiny hamlet in the 12th century, serving a nunnery and a priory. Rolling fields (we've heard this before) were the order of the day, and farming was where it was at. Nearby, Smoothfield was a horse market, and this later became a meat market, as well as transforming into Smithfield. The annual Bartholomew's Fair also took place here, which proved popular for many years until it was suspended in 1855 because of debauched behaviour.

Barbican

The Barbican is located in the heart of the city of London and is accessible by rail, underground and road.
